Just a few small inlay projects I've done.
I really enjoy doing the inlay work. As a kid I always admired seeing the inlay work on the old furniture and always wanted to be able to do it. So now with the help of my computer and my laser machine I CAN ! this is just a small sample of some of the inlay work I have done.
My Flamie Dragon Carousel
I had a request to build a christmas carousel. I knew that I'd be keeping the prototype so I made one I'd like for me! It is powered by candles that you set around the outside and the heat from the candles powers the fan like top. It needed to be extremely free of any drag and finding the right bearing turned out to be a major challenge. So, I put my imagination to work and came up with a clever design. I love magnets and always have plenty around to play with and they came to the rescue. I build a cavity and glued one magnet + side up in the bottom and glued one + side down on the main shaft. They oppose each other and float the main shaft upwards and the display plate is glued to the main shaft. The new magnets are very powerful and will support several pounds. Seems it's a HIT because everybody that comes over always finds it,... and plays with it !

Talon Tunes
My friend CNC machines these for a paintball supply company and as you can see I laser there logo on them. I believe these are a adaptor for a larger air supply tank. Not sure how much larger it is, but it must help because he sells many of these !
Little T lures
Even though I mostly do laser and wood crafting I am also a machinist as well. Most of my machining abilities came from the automotive industry (race car engines) but have allowed me to do other projects outside of racing. Here is a brass plug ( big game fishing lure ) It gets a plastic sock on the bottom that looks like a squid's tentacles. I designed and manufactured for my friends and partners in the fishing industry. I start with a 6" long x 1"dia. piece of brass bar stock and turn it into this plug. We have had great success testing with this plug and believe me it works GREAT ! Want to catch big fish, gotta use big bait !
Rigby Safari Mini Bar
This is the latest project I did for Rigby. It's a portable mini bar or sometimes called a whiskey box bar. I made this as a prototype and we had a photo shoot done and sent the pictures to Germany (a Rigby Investment group) and they loved it and wanted the prototype so we shipped it off to Germany. Check out the bottles each one has a different wild animal and a different liquor in them, I guess you could call it a variety pack LOL ! The lid is walnut with a early (1800's) sailors map of Africa depicting where the different animals could be found on the inside and a large blackened Rigby logo on the top. The box is plywood with a green woven cloth upholstery and shelves and trim are walnut and a faux marble mixing tray. The outside is upholstered as well with stencel type logos and a brass wildlife banding that I aged with some black paint. Hope it sells well because I'm supposed to be getting royalties from this one !

Rigby & Son Co. Trade Show Exhibit Cabinets
I had the Honor of hand building Rigby's trade show display. It is seven different cabinets that are assembled into one big display. The challenge was to be able to be able to set them up and them take them apart for shipping then have them reassemble as if all new and one piece unit again. I used dowel pins (large ones) and clamps to pull the separate units together into a perfect alignment. They have the newest LED strip lighting and some of the nicest hand carvings available. The pediments and elephant heads are all solid walnut. The trim moldings are solid walnut that came from Alvin York's plantation (from the Famous & Historic Wood Co.) that I had custom milled. The bottom of all the cabinets have trap doors for storage that are held shut with magnets. I hand made all the upper and lower corner box's that allowed for full length base and crown moldings, to give it that one piece installed look. I'll upload some of the construction photo's shortly.
